DDH at 20 months of age - Managed Surgically

Pelvic X-ray of a 20-month-old with right developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH)

DDH at 20 months of age - Managed Surgically - Open reduction + Femur Osteotomy + Acetabulum Osteotomy + Spica application

Pre-operative X-rays and photos of the child in a hip spica cast

This girl child was brought by parents to Dr Somesh Virmani when the child was 20 months old. The complaint was significant limp while walking and easy tiredness. On examination and xrays, the diagnosis of right DDH was made.

Since she was already 20 months old, there was no scope of conservative treatment. Moreover, closed reduction and spica application was done already in her hometown.

She underwent open reduction of right hip + femoral osteotomy and fixation + acetabulum osteotomy and spica application.

Follow-up X-ray after open reduction and osteotomy showing the hip well reduced

Hip was well reduced and in this follow up X-ray, the hip is well at its natural place and the cup of hip joint (acetabulum) has also developed very well. She is able to walk, run and play well; without any limp.
